So we’re on our second year of participating in a CSA. We tried a smaller shop this time, Local Motive Farms in Coldstream, NS. They’ve repeatedly supplied us nice hauls. Lots of greens, turnips, garlic scapes and even horseradish!

Local chicken is getting expensive. Once an affordable staple, I fear our ubiquitous bird friend is becoming a delicacy when you go the eco-friendly route. In a year or two I’ll have to reserve dear old poulet for special occasions I do with lobsters, black truffles and caviar.

When the Valley gang gets together it can usually be summarized in a word –excess. It encapsulates everything. The prime examples being food, booze, entertainment, insults, sloth and gas. All are happily exploited. We arrive full of excitement and energy and always leave with promises that “we will never do this again.” Futile. After a round of applause to end each trip, we march on to the next, doomed to repeat ourselves.
